CIPS Delegate secures employment at NHS Wales Shared Services

A CIPS delegate who completed his Diploma in May has already secured a job within the procurement industry, and credits his programme with USW Commercial Services as ‘the perfect tool to achieve employment’.

Gwyn Thomas spent two decades in various roles in the leisure and entertainment industry, before making the daunting decision to make a career change. After speaking to his suppliers, he realised procurement was the perfect next step.

Following a year of study at USW, he has now secured a position at NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership as an Assistant Buyer.

He said: “I wouldn’t have been able to make this career transition without the CIPS qualification – it got my foot in the door for interviews and I have already been implementing what I learnt at work.

“The service from USW Commercial Services was first class from start to end, if you are interested in completing a professional development course, I would say don’t bother looking at any other institution.”

Chris Lee, a USW CIPS Senior Lecturer, said: “If you’re serious about your future in procurement and supply, the CIPS qualifications are essential to reach the highest levels.

“You’ll find that belonging to a professional institute brings long-term career advantages. According to independent research, individuals with professional qualifications and membership stand to gain £152,000 in additional earnings over the course of their professional life.

“We’re really pleased to have helped Gwyn during his career change, and are thrilled that he secured employment so quickly after completing the qualification.”

We’re proud of our reputation as the ‘go-to’ centre for CIPS delivery. We run the courses at our Treforest campus, or can alternatively deliver the qualifications in-house at your organisation for groups of up to 15 people.
